In Watkins Glen, the Allman Brothers Band, Grateful Dead, and The Band performed on July 28, 1973. In the largest crowd of rock & roll admirers, there were serenity, nudity, joy, and drugs. The Summer Jam at Watkins Glen was as yet a stone occasion once remembered for the Guinness World records named the “biggest crowd at a pop celebration.”
Three of rock’s finest successful bands got together for an outdoor music festival. Because just 150,000 tickets went on sale, most of the audience attended the event free. The Grateful Dead took the stage first, performing two sets of great music over five hours in the middle of torrential rain. The sound quality is quite astonishing.
